Safeguarding Policy

How Miss Maths Daily keeps students safe, maintains professional boundaries and responds to concerns.

Our commitment

Miss Maths Daily is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every student we work with. Safeguarding always comes before any other consideration, including academic progress.
We believe every child has the right to learn in an environment where they feel safe, respected and listened to.
The tutor completes safeguarding awareness training, refreshed at least every [2] years.
This policy applies to all tutoring, whether online or in person, and to all communication through the Student Portal.

Professional boundaries

The relationship between tutor and student is professional at all times.
The tutor does not meet students socially, offer lifts, give gifts, or connect with students on personal social media accounts.
Online lessons take place in an appropriate, non-private setting at both ends, with a parent or guardian at home and able to see or hear the session.
In-person lessons take place in a shared or visible space with an adult present in the home, never behind a locked door.
Physical contact is avoided. Any first aid or emergency situation is reported to the parent immediately.

Appropriate communication with students

Communication with students under 18 takes place in lessons and through the Student Portal, where the parent account can also see messages.
The tutor does not use personal phone numbers, private social media messages or anonymous chat apps to contact students.
Messages stay focused on maths, homework, targets and lesson arrangements.
Language is age-appropriate, encouraging and free from anything that could be misread as personal or inappropriate.
A record of portal messages is retained, which protects both students and the tutor.

Parent involvement and transparency

Parents and guardians are treated as partners in their child's learning and are given access to lesson summaries, homework, progress and messages.
Parents are welcome to observe or sit in on any lesson at any time, with no notice required.
Parents are informed about what information is recorded in the portal and consent to this through the parent consent form.
Any change in lesson arrangements, tutor or location is agreed with the parent in advance.

Raising and responding to safeguarding concerns

If a student discloses something worrying, the tutor listens carefully, does not promise confidentiality, does not ask leading questions, and writes a factual record of what was said as soon as possible.
Concerns are shared with the parent or guardian on the same day, unless doing so could place the child at greater risk.
Where there is a concern that a child is at risk of harm, the tutor will refer the matter to the local authority children's services or the police without delay, and will do so even if a parent objects.
In an emergency where a child is in immediate danger, the tutor will call 999 first.
Parents, students or anyone else can raise a safeguarding concern about Miss Maths Daily by emailing the address below. Concerns are acknowledged within [1] working day.
Concerns can also be raised independently with the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000, with your local authority children's services, or with the police.

Following safeguarding best practice

We follow the principles of Keeping Children Safe in Education and the statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children, applied proportionately to a small independent tutoring service.
Safeguarding records are kept factually, securely and separately from ordinary lesson notes, and are shared only with those who need to see them.
This policy is reviewed at least once a year and updated whenever guidance or the way we work changes.
Students are reminded that they can tell the tutor, a parent or another trusted adult if anything ever makes them feel uncomfortable.
